MeDHI: Advancing Healthcare

Traditional approaches to medicine often focuses on single diseases or organs. Future healthcare requires a more comprehensive approach to diagnosis and therapy. The MeDHI (Metabolism, Digital Health, Inflammation) research cluster at the University of Bern is at the forefront of this evolution. Our initiative connects experts from diverse fields, including metabolic disorders, inflammatory diseases, machine learning, and imaging, to pursue a novel, systems-based approach to medicine that defines health and disease holistically.

Breaking Disciplinary Silos

At the core of MeHDI lies the integration of multimodal data from digital biomarkers, medical imaging, clinical information systems, patient cohorts, and molecular/cellular data. By leveraging these rich data sources we can build innovative models that advance the transition from traditional approaches. This shift will enable us to move from prevention to prediction and from targeted therapies to individualized treatments, which is particularly critical for chronic diseases.

Leveraging Data for Personalized Medicine

MeHDI's Transdisciplinary Vision

Our research methodologies are transdisciplinary, allowing for the integration of diverse information sources. We employ cutting-edge technologies and weave these into patient-oriented clinical studies.

Building a Collaborative Community

In addition to our research focus, MeHDI is dedicated to building a collaborative community. We aim to break down disciplinary silos by connecting individuals from different areas of expertise. We are committed to fostering young talent through our teaching activities and promoting public engagement and understanding through outreach initiatives and patient partnerships.

Through these efforts, MeHDI is building a robust network to drive innovation and shape the future of healthcare.
